Intimacy

December 15th, 2007 Posted in Blog

Intimacy is not something that happens over night, but a long developing bond of trust and security in another person. Intimacy is not something you can tear down and build in a day. Intimacy, like trust, can be built in years and broken in seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, and months. Intimacy is fragile and must be handled with the utmost care. It is not something you drop off at the Post Office for them to mangle. It is a package of sincerity which must be hand delivered with love to your recipient of choice.

If intimacy is a hand delivered package, what do you do when you have dropped it off at the Post Office by mistake? When you find yourself at 25% of the intimacy level at which you once were when the fire was hot and ready to be molded by the blacksmith of life? Where do you go from there? How do you dig from the bottom? Is it hopeless or is there a road to recovery? Can all wounds be healed or are there some too deep to repair without intensive care? All wounds can be healed, but there is no easy road to recovery and 12 step process. Nothing is hopeless, but nothing in love has an Easy Button.

Intimacy is a commitment to be on the same page and build the pyramid of love together. Once you find your coworker in love, don’t let the fire kindle because it is going to take some time to relight a kindled flame of intimacy. However, be diligent in your quest. There is never a flame too dormant to bring to a raging fire again. Even if you feel like a strangers, the fire may be buried, but not lost. Try not to let the flame kindle in the first place. Be aware of your fire, stoke your fire often, and let your coworker know you appreciate their efforts in keeping the fire hot.

There is no better feeling than the love and care of another, but there is also no worse feeling than a tattered heart. Hand deliver that package of intimacy daily in the warm touches and hugs of your significant other and have a great rest of the day because you never know what tomorrow will bring. Stay warm from the heat of your flame and have a great rest of the weekend and on into the Holidays.
