Apple Stock On The Fly For A Reason

September 27th, 2007 Posted in Tech

I found this article on Digg this morning during break at Sun Solaris 10 training: Apple (AAPL) Hits 52 Week High. Don’t tell anyone. Just kidding you can tell whoever; it was break time :D

There is a reason AAPL is flying up the charts … (drum roll) … they are Apple. Think about who the fan-boys are… rich snobs who stick their nose in the stock market. I have not very many poor Apple fan-boys. Apple appeals to a more sophisticated crowd than does Windows (sorry Billy). Apple is like being in a fraternity. Windows is like showing up at a house party when you don’t know anyone, but you have a decent time. It’s not the most intriguing social group to be part of, but it’s alright. Being an Apple guy or gal is like being in the cool group at high school right now. I see dad’s little spoiled brats with the iPhone walking around the Chapel Hills Mall and the Promenade Shops at Briargate. I see Apple t-shirts at Borders sitting around Starbucks drinking Iced Caramel Macchiatos. I don’t see anyone toting Windows Vista t-shirts like it’s their favorite band. Microsoft is just not the hip company.

Apple is the in thing right now and they are doing the right things as far as marketing and bottomline. Their percentage of home users does not have to be large like Windows. That is not Apple’s game. They are an exclusive business, and if they stay that way, they will be the Facebook in the computer industry while Windows will always be the MySpace (if you don’t understand that analogy read: Social Networking Divide: Facebook is for Preps, MySpace for the Fringe) Think about it; it’s not rocket science.

PS - I’m not a Apple fanboy, Microsoft hater, or Linux nerdie Just a indifferent bystander. I find a good use for all 3 in my life.

You made some good points in this post! I don’t recall /ever/ seeing a Windows Vista t-shirt, not even on those that wear Cisco, HP, and other “techie” shirts…

YEAH!!! First comment on boyd-web.net. Jen you get a prize :D

I have shirts from other companies, but I don’t wear them around as a fashion statement. Apple is another animal when it comes to being hip.

The air is too thin for you out there, dboyd……you need some chips and salsa.

This may make the Apple/Facebook, Windows/MySpace analogy not fit so well: http://www.chicagotribune.com/technology/sns-ap-microsoft-facebook,1,1246789.story

Brian, I could use some Little Mex chips and salsa with the ESU 10 gang :D

I see your point and I heard about this, but Zuckerberg didn’t sell before so I would hope he would not sell out to the Dark Side. That would break my metaphor and my heart :(

Mark Zukerberg, don’t sell out to Microsoft.
